Where to Buy a Trench Coat

I may be known to some as the resident francophile, or the one who moved from Chicago to Paris before Emily in Paris may have copied my life a bit 😉. So when people ask so often about getting trench coats you may need to write a post. Now, here is my best rundown on where to buy your first trench coat.

Buy Me a Coffee at ko-fi.com

Before this list, here’s my number 1 tip if you have never owned a trench coat. You might like to start your trench coat journey with the classic beige when looking at brands that have basics.

H&M

Check out what coat options the have online.

Below is my third trench coat. I bought it in highschool and wore it throughout college.

Zara

Zara has some fantastic basics, this Spanish brand you can find around the world always tends to have trench coats. Recently the brand has even collabed to create interesting pieces like this one worn by my friend Shelby. If you don’t already know Shelby, you need to check out her YouTube Channel, Instagram, or my last post that features her!

ASOS

Looking through the ASOS website, you have over 300 trench coat options! Haven’t found one you’re looking for check out their website.

Tag me @prepalamode or #connectedinternational on Instagram if you get one and I can feature you here!

2nd hand

I’ve always loved a second-hand store because you sometimes find interesting brands you would never find in the stores you usually go to, but there is definitely a bit of searching involved! Locations around the world now have these stores, as when I was young I found them throughout Germany, used to stop at specific stores in Paris (if you haven’t staked out le Marais you are missing out!), and here in the US we have some as well.

Here’s a denim style classic trench from G.H. Bass & Co. that someone let me give a second life to. I wear this in anything above 55-degree weather!

If you are looking for an alternative option thredUP | An Online Consignment & Thrift Store is available for those located in the US and Canada. I love this as I can search by what I’m looking for, the brand, and even the color, and know that people are also giving clothing a new life. How sustainable! If you’re not into looking, check out some of my finds here.

And if you are reading this know of any international online brands that do this please let me know in the comments below!

Keep your eyes open

Sometimes something good finds you, so don’t ignore opportunities that come your way.

Here is one of my favorite trenchcoats I found at an antique store. It’s silk-lined, double-buttoned, British, and did I say vintage?!

Check out my shop as well- I always have an eye out for vintage or pre-loved trench coats (and anything travel or francophile related). Looking for a 20% discount? Message me on Instagram!

  1. I hadn’t thought to look at H&M! I’ll check them out. I’m always looking for a cool-toned stone color rather than a warm-toned beige to better suit my wardrobe.

    1. I have a really old grey/beige one from 2007 that sounds up your alley then. Seriously do check out trusty H&M, but if I see one that has more of a cool-tone stone color I will send it your way here in the comments!
